How to Buy Your Next Suit

At some point you will have to get a new suit, for work, an event or a wedding. When I think of suits, it has to be about the cut, the fit and the price.

One of the most important factors of suit shopping is the fit! Buying a new suit isn't easy, but the best thing you can do is get one made for you - which means you get exactly what you want. Another good option is buying an expensive label off the rack, and then getting it altered to perfection.

To put it simply, there is no better option than getting a suit made for you. This offers the opportunity to choose your preferred type of fabric. - a wool blend for autumn/winter or polyester cotton for spring/summer.

The second most important factor is comfort. You will probably be wearing this suit all day, which means you need maximum circulation and movement in your arms and back. So, be sure to check that the suit allows movement and proper circulation while looking dapper.

A couple of months ago, my friend was in need of a new suit and I suggested that he get one made. I told him that you can get exactly what you want, made for your body shape AND you'll look like you stepped off the set of 'Mad Men'. The risk with buying off-the-rack bought off the rack is that the jacket might fit you like a glove, but then the pants might be too small in the thighs… and that's a definite no-no for the suit-loving man.

In the end, my friend had a suit made that was comfortable, chic and complemented his body shape. It transformed him to a more confident person, and made him more effective in the workplace. (true story!). It was agreat example of the confidence and composure that a well-cut suit can bring.

For a man to look his best in a suit, try a slim fit. Don't settle for an itchy, baggy fit and poor quality fabrics. Instead, opt for the neat 'Don Draper' look and always dress for the job you want, not the one you have!
