BMW delivers another instant classic

Looking over the BMW range, you could easily be forgiven for thinking that the Bavarian builders have become, well… boring.

It seems that Mercedes definitely have the edge when it comes to building eye-catching cars fit for the modern age. Meanwhile, Beamer has almost reverted back to the style preferred by Audi (and disparagingly referred to as ‘same sausage, different length’) which has removed much of the personality created by the controversial Chris Bangle.

However, the creative team at BMW continues to impress with their modern interpretations of classic cars. We drooled over the 3.0 CSL from last year, and they’ve done it again with the release of the 2002 Hommage.

Designed to celebrate 50 years since the original 2002, there are plenty of cues back to the car that redefined the sports coupe. However, open that bonnet and you’ll find one of the most glorious engines ever produced – BMW’s turbocharged 3.0 litre that barely squeezes in with the rest of the M2 underpinnings.

Suffice to say, we’ll take one… right now. Unfortunately, this is a one-off, although there are plenty of Auto-blogs predicting this will provide the basis for a track-ready M2 is the next 12 to 18 months.'

Get in the queue right now. Much like the original 0012, this is destined to be a modern classic.
