Meet Canberra's Future Leader
Highly awarded, respected and skilled local businesswomen Elise Apolloni will add to her many abilities by spending a year increasing her understanding of board governance as the 2018 Canberra Business Chamber Future Leader.
Ms Apolloni was selected for the 2018 Future Leaders Program by the Chamber Board from a very strong field. Ms Apolloni has worked in pharmacies since she was 14-years-old and today she is a partner and pharmacist at both Capital Chemist Wanniassa and Capital Chemist Kambah. She was named the 2017 Telstra Young Business Woman of the Year and is the first Credentialed Pharmacist Diabetes Educator based and accredited in the ACT.
“We have many successful young business people in the ACT and it is wonderful to see them already interested in how they can contribute to our community in the future as board members of our local organisations,” Canberra Business Chamber Deputy Chair and Chair of the Future Leaders Program Selection Panel, Keith Cantlie said. “We thank everyone who nominated for the Future Leaders Program and congratulate Elise.”
The Future Leaders Program, delivered in partnership with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), provides a strong practical and theoretical introduction to the roles and responsibilities of board members.
During her year with the Program, Ms Apolloni will be mentored by a Chamber Board member who will offer guidance and support on the Board process and decision making. By attending the Chamber Board meetings as an observer, the candidate will be able to gain practical experience and apply theoretical skills gained from AICD.
AICD State Manager, Lynette Pinder said “AICD is very pleased to partner with the Chamber again in 2018 by providing the formal training to support the Future Leaders practical board experience. We are delighted the last two candidates, both female business owners and emerging leaders, have gained Directorship positions since completing the program.”
“As her predecessors have, Elise will gain a great deal from this program, which is now in its third year,” Mr Cantlie said. “Elise will be able to apply this learning to her own business, as well as future Directorships. The Chamber will gain considerable value from Elise’s impressive experience, in particular her experience in the retail and health services industries.”
For Ms Apolloni, the Future Leaders Program is an opportunity to build on her passion for governance and decision-making. “For the last few years, I have become increasingly interested in governance and have undertaken some training with AICD to further my knowledge. The Future Leaders Program will further my experience in this area and give me a chance to observe the theory I have learnt at the AICD.”
