Drink your way through the US Election with Trump Wine

With only 24 hours to go until we see the first results roll in, the wall-to-wall overage of the US election is enough to drive you to drink.

Fortunately, one of the candidates has supplied his own solution to the problem: Yes, you can drown out the political noise by necking a few bottles of Trump wine -  and enjoy the story of its history that is typical of the potential President.

Trump Winery sits on 200 acres in Virginia. The website is notable for two features: The Trump branding that has adorned everything from steaks to universities, and an endless stream of booze-related quotes from Thomas Jefferson.

The story of Trump winery is just as intriguing as everything else about the man. Built by a former nude model, Patricia Kluge and her husband, John, the couple spent over $100 million developing the property until defaulting on loans in 2011.

Trump then purchased the land – but not the sprawling mansion – from the Bank of America for $500,000. Subsequently, the Republican nominee was accused of neglecting the surrounding grounds and allowing them to become overgrown – a strategy to drive down the value of the mansion and deter other potential buyers.

It worked. By the end of 2011, Trump had purchased the mansion for S3.6 million – a long way short of the foreclosure price of $16 million and the $100 million sought by Ms Kluge prior to defaulting.

The Donald gave Trump Winery to his son, Eric. However, that didn’t let him use the operation to demonstrate his success. According to The Daily Beast, in March 2016 Donald Trump stated publicly that he owned, "the largest winery on the east coast" at a time when the winery's website asserted that it was owned by Eric Trump Wineries LLC and despite previous reports that Trump had given the winery to his son.

It’s just another lie on the bizarre juggernaut of the Trump campaign. The good news is that after the vote is counted he will go away for ever.

Well, we wish…
