Confessions of a home delivery addict

My name is Sheena and I'm a home-delivery addict. And I don't just mean takeaway dinners. Gifts, tea, coffee, skincare, clothes, food, wine and anything else that you can think of, once I find out it can be delivered, I jump for joy!

As a buy local advocate, you may wonder how I can shop local, online. Well, that's easy. The delivery economy has well and truly embedded itself into our region, making it easier than ever to buy local. And I encourage time-poor businesses and individuals to jump on board the delivery bandwagon.

Last year, I managed to try almost every coffee roaster in town thanks to the deliver economy. Local company Drum & Dry dropped a bag of coffee beans at my door every month to keep me caffeinated (if you've ever seen me before my morning coffee, you'd know how very important this is!). They deliver to your home, office or anywhere else the postman can go, meaning you no longer need to fear running out of coffee before breakfast or an important meeting.

Helping me relax at the end if the day is my tea addiction. And thanks to the deliver economy, my addiction is safe. Local company Tea Garden Co delivers a variety of delicious, Canberra-made tea to my door. Forcing me to embrace variety in flavours and warming me with end-of-day appropriate flavours like ‘just add gin,’ ‘choc o’clock’ and ‘when life gives you lemons’.

Coffee and tea aren’t the only things that keep me pepped up each day. With often interesting hours, being unprepared in the food department means my partner risks the wrath of my hanger when I arrive home at 5pm, after a lunch and snack-free day…

Now many of my fit friends have told me the benefits of meal-prep, and I've intermittently jumped on the meal-prep bandwagon before. But I tend to fall off easily, choosing high tea, market visits and movie dates over a Sunday in the kitchen.

That's where the deliver economy saves me, once again. YouFoodz Canberra, Easy Life Meals and NuMeals (by Nutrition Station) all provide fresh meals that can require no cooking or reheating. I just pop them in a cool bag and hoover them in a carpark between meetings. Not attractive for anyone passing by, but definitely a life-saver and a hanger preventative!

While this article gives you an insight into how food and drink rule my days, I promise the deliver economy in Canberra spans to more than refreshments.

The local designers you've encountered at markets, in local collective stores and in local fashion shows all deliver as well. This means that when you look at your calendar and realise you need an outfit for an upcoming event, you can order online in less time than it takes to park at the mall. (You can also order, and even take the delivery, with a wine in hand and Netflix in the background - what's not to love!)

With increasingly busy lifestyles, it was only a matter of time before the deliver economy took hold in Canberra. While large organisations like Amazon, Kogan and the Iconic tend to scream the loudest in advertising about ‘delivery to your door’, take a look at what our local community has to offer in the deliver economy. I assure you, there's much on offer!
