New program will help ACT businesses take on the world
Canberra Business Chamber congratulates the ACT Government for its ongoing commitment to building a strong a vibrant local business sector. “
With the support of the ACT Government, the Chamber looks forward to doing more to help Canberra businesses continue to be sustainable, grow and look for export opportunities,” Canberra Business Chamber CEO, Robyn Hendry said.
“The program announced today during the Chief Minister’s ‘State of the Territory’ Business Address will help existing businesses move from stage to stage – start-up to small business, small business to medium and medium to large business – and from local, to national, to international player.”
“This program will support businesses that are up and running, but challenged to expand or perhaps even continue to operate.”
“We are excited the ACT Government is working to create an environment that supports businesses which have gone beyond the initial start-up phase; businesses who are employing people and investing in our economy. If these businesses fail, the impact is multiplied,” Ms Hendry explained.
In the ACT, established businesses are feeling positive about their prospects, but support is required to ensure they can continue to operate, employ and grow. Local businesses have made it clear they are poised and wanting to invest, expand and export, but the right support mechanisms must be in place.
According to a recent survey by Canberra Business Chamber in partnership with Deloitte, 90 per cent of small and medium enterprises (SME) are looking to grow their business.
“With this program, we will be even better equipped to help them do this,” Ms Hendry said. “Providing the right environment for established businesses to scale up, including in the trade arena, will create employment, lift business confidence, and increase propensity and capacity to invest – not to mention provide returns to the economy in terms of down-stream spending and taxation revenue.”
Canberra Business Chamber also welcomes the ACT Government’s focus on increasing opportunities in areas of excellence. “Building on our competitive advantages is a strategic, sensible approach,” Ms Hendry praised. “One of our major advantages is our world class education and research institutions and their partnerships with each other and industry.
