Grounded: Clive Palmer and Nathan Tinkler share a common problem

While it might be an exciting time to be an Australian, it’s not a particularly fun time to be an instant mining magnate. Two of Australia’s most rambunctious former billionaires have lost their mojo of late, and as a result some of their favourite assets are up for sale.

If you’re the kind of person that’s hard to buy for, drop a couple of hints that boganniare and horse rustler, Nathan Tinkler, has his Dassault Falcon 900C in the Trading Post. The jet, which distinguishes itself from more common and pedestrian Gulfstreams with its three-jet set-up, is yours for around $12 million. Bargain!

The Royal Australian Air Force used to love them, so much so that they were used to ferry around the Prime Minister in the late Nineties. Who knows? Perhaps your arse will rub against the same leather as John Howard’s. Surely that makes the price tag even more attractive?.

Bambardier Global Express - similar to Mr Plamer's

Meanwhile, far north of the Tweed, the self-made captain of the Titanic is having a few problems with companies attached to his failing Queensland Nickel. Palmer Aviation has only one asset, and that is a single Bombardier Global Express. Lucky for Palmer Aviation they decided to spend all their money on the jet, as the company is registered in the Cayman Islands, some 15,000kms from Townsville.

Unfortunately, the range of a Bombardier Global Express is only 11,300kms (or 5,000kms when Clive Palmer is on board). Oh well, there’s nothing like a Pacific Island hop to keep the creditors at bay. Palmer paid $40 million for the plane in 2012, but we’ve heard rumours he’s willing to trade to a qualified Senior Counsel for 38 years of service.
